Pick a day, or the first and last day of your stay in Tromsø. We check the booking calendar of each floating tour and list the ones that still have space on those dates, from the harbour float in town to the evening sessions out at the fjords.

Getting there: Transport from Magic Ice Bar, 25 min to Kaldfjord
Getting there: None needed, you float in the city harbour
Own way to Kaldfjord
Arctic floating means lying on your back in the sea in a survival suit, with the suit doing the work of keeping you up. From Tromsø you can do it in the city harbour or on a fjord about 25 minutes out of town, at a camp with a campfire, at a small base with waffles, or at a wooden sauna on the shore. Pick the situation closest to yours, then check the table.
Take the harbour float. You meet at Søndre Tollbodgate 19 in the centre, there is no drive, and the whole outing takes two hours, up to 1.5 of them in the water. It runs all year, so it also fits a short summer stay.
Authentic North takes children from 8 years and 130 cm, both at its Ramfjordbotn camp and on the harbour float. The camp adds a pickup in the centre, a campfire and pastries baked over the fire, which keeps the waiting time warm. 10XNorth gives no minimum age on its product page, so check before booking with children.
10XNorth runs evening departures to Kaldfjord from October to March, with transport from the Magic Ice Bar. The Ramfjordbotn camp has night visits, and the Kaldfjord sauna offers evening sessions in the aurora season. A sighting needs a dark, clear sky and is never guaranteed.
Book the Ramfjordbotn camp in late winter. Authentic North writes that the fjord there freezes over from January to March, and guests who came in March and April describe ice floes and climbing onto the ice, while February guests describe a small hole cut at the shore. Before January you float in open water.
The floating and sauna session on Kaldfjord has no transfer, so it suits a rental car. You book floating, sauna or both for a fixed day or evening slot at Ropnesvegen 82. It is new and has no reviews yet, and the product page states no age, height or weight limits.

Pickup in the centre, floating camp with a cabin by the sea, campfire with pastries. Day or night visits.
Authentic North picks you up in the centre of Tromsø or at Tromsø Lodge & Camping and drives you about 25 minutes to its floating camp in Ramfjordbotn, a cabin by the sea. There you climb into a rescue suit over your own warm clothes and float in the fjord with a guide. The programme gives 100 minutes for the guided part in the water.
Afterwards there is a campfire with coffee, tea and snacks, including pastries baked over the fire, and a certificate from the Arctic Ocean Floaters Club. You can choose a day visit or a night visit with a chance of northern lights. The operator writes that the fjord freezes over from January to March. Children under 8, anyone shorter than 130 cm and anyone over 150 kg cannot join.
Pickup in the city centre (Søndre Tollbodgate 11) or at Tromsø Lodge & Camping, then about 25 minutes by car to Ramfjordbotn.

Transport from the Magic Ice Bar, about 45 minutes in the water, waffles, photos and a diploma.
10XNorth meets you at the Magic Ice Bar on Kaigata and drives about 25 minutes to Kaldfjord. After a safety briefing of about 20 minutes you float for around 45 minutes in a neoprene survival suit. You do not need to be able to swim.
Towels, tea, coffee and freshly made Norwegian waffles are part of the trip, and so are the photos and videos the guides take and a diploma. Evening departures from October to March can bring northern lights. The operator says a little water can get into the suit, so bring dry clothes to change into. Anyone over 70, under 35 kg or over 135 kg cannot join, and neither can people with heart problems, high blood pressure, back problems or impaired hearing.
Magic Ice Bar, Kaigata 4, Tromsø. From there about 25 minutes by car to Kaldfjord.

Two hours in the city centre, up to 1.5 hours in the water, optional jump from the docks. All year.
The shortest way to float in Arctic water: you meet at Søndre Tollbodgate 19 by the Vervet waterfront in the city centre, get a safety briefing of about 15 minutes and then spend up to 1.5 hours in the harbour in an immersion rescue suit. There is no drive, and you do not need to be able to swim.
Authentic North runs the harbour float all year, under the polar night in winter and the midnight sun in summer. If you want to, you can jump in from the docks, a drop of 2 to 3 metres depending on the tide. A drink afterwards and an Arctic Ocean Floaters Club certificate are included. On very cold days the operator hands out insulating overalls for under the suit. Children under 8, anyone shorter than 130 cm and anyone over 150 kg cannot join.

From the GetYourGuide product pages, checked in October 2026. Ramfjordbotn lists 100 minutes for the guided tour and floating together, so the time in the water is shorter. The harbour float lists up to 1.5 hours in the water.
The harbour float by Authentic North happens right in the centre, by the Vervet waterfront at Søndre Tollbodgate. You walk there, float for up to 1.5 hours with the city around you, and are done two hours after the start. It runs all year, through the polar night and under the midnight sun, and you can jump in from the docks, a drop of 2 to 3 metres depending on the tide. The fjord tours trade that convenience for setting: a drive of about 25 minutes each way, mountains around the water, darker skies for the northern lights, and in late winter the chance of ice in Ramfjordbotn. They take three hours or more in total.
The listed duration covers the whole outing. 10XNorth lists about 45 minutes of floating in a three-and-a-half-hour trip; the rest is the drive, a safety briefing of about 20 minutes, changing, and waffles afterwards. The harbour float is the opposite: two hours in total and up to 1.5 of them in the water after a 15-minute briefing. Guests there report being in the water for about an hour. At the Ramfjordbotn camp the programme lists 100 minutes for the guided tour and floating together, then about 30 minutes at the campfire with coffee, tea and snacks. The Kaldfjord sauna does not say how long the floating part lasts within its three-hour slot.
Authentic North collects guests in the city centre (Søndre Tollbodgate 11) or at Tromsø Lodge & Camping for its Ramfjordbotn camp. 10XNorth meets at the Magic Ice Bar at Kaigata 4 and drives to Kaldfjord. For the harbour float there is nothing to arrange. The floating and sauna session at Ropnesvegen 82 on Kaldfjord is the only one without transport: you drive yourself, and the operator offers a transfer only for groups of 10 or more, at extra cost. Arrive on time, because each booking is a fixed slot.
Authentic North uses the same rules at the camp and in the harbour: children from 8, a minimum height of 130 cm and a maximum weight of 150 kg. 10XNorth sets a weight window of 35 to 135 kg and an upper age of 70, and its product page rules out people with heart problems, high blood pressure, back problems, limited mobility or impaired hearing, as well as wheelchair users. It names no minimum age. The Kaldfjord sauna states no limits at all on its product page; ask the operator if anyone in your group is near one of the limits above. You do not need to be able to swim on the harbour float or at 10XNorth, as both product pages say. All limits in one place.
Every tour provides the suit; the layers underneath are yours. Authentic North recommends several warm layers, wool if possible, and hands out insulating overalls at the harbour on very cold days. Guests at the Ramfjordbotn camp mention a cotton overall under the suit. 10XNorth lists warm clothes for under the suit and a change of dry clothes as things to bring, because a little water can get in.
From roughly late November to mid-January the sun stays below the horizon in Tromsø, and even daytime floats happen in twilight. For the northern lights you need the fjord tours or the sauna: night visits at the Ramfjordbotn camp, evening departures with 10XNorth from October to March, and evening sessions at the Kaldfjord sauna in the aurora season. None of them can promise a display. Ice is a late-winter matter. Authentic North writes that its fjord freezes over from January to March, and 10XNorth says floating among ice is possible in Kaldfjord in winter as well. Early in the season, expect open, dark water.
10XNorth and the floating and sauna session are both on Kaldfjord, but they work differently. 10XNorth is a guided trip from town with transport, a fixed programme of briefing, about 45 minutes of floating, waffles and photos. The sauna session is a time slot you book at the shore: floating, sauna or both, with a flotation suit, a briefing and staff supervision for the floating part, and a towel. It is new and has no reviews yet, so the table shows it as such. Both are compared in detail on the Kaldfjord page.
Guests praise the guides on every tour. The critical voices describe what the choice above is about: a small ice hole at the shore of the camp in February, a city quay with onlookers in the harbour, and suits that leaked for some guests at Kaldfjord. The sauna session has no reviews yet.
“It was really great. We had so much fun. We wouldn't have expected that beforehand. The location is awesome. You get a cotton suit to wear underneath, so it's not cold at all! It's really fun with the ice floes and definitely has an "Arctic" feel. Plenty of pictures and videos were taken of us, which we received immediately afterwards. The transport also worked out without any problems. There were cookies and tea afterwards. Some water can get into the suit, but that's not a big deal. We would definitely do it again because the fun factor is very high :)”
“The activity involved a lot more than I expected which was really cool. Our guides Ola and Paolo were awesome, really took care of the group and were also a lots of fun.”
“The guide was very attentive and handsome. He explained the details of the movements very clearly and took a lot of photos. We floated for about an hour in total, and no water got into our clothes. At the end, I jumped in and got a little wet. It was a great experience!”
“The Artic float was fine. It was fun but nothing spectacular. […] They cut a small hole in the ice and we floated right by the edge. […] After about 10 minutes, you're wondering what's next. I'm sure if the Northern Lights were to appear it would be amazing but we found it slightly underwhelming. The hosts were fabulous though.”
“I thought I could go out to sea to float, but it turned out I just got into the water at the city port and walked into the sea to float. During the process, I received stares and photos from everyone on the shore. Towards the end, it got very cold […]”
“The tour guide was very enthusiastic and responsible, but the clothes were really problematic, some of them leaked, but my friend's were very new, so it depends on your luck! But it was fun, and after the tour, there were waffles made by the tour guide himself!”
Reviews written by guests after their float, from GetYourGuide.

The harbour float lists up to 1.5 hours in the water. The Ramfjordbotn camp lists 100 minutes for the guided tour and floating together. 10XNorth gives about 45 minutes. The Kaldfjord sauna does not state a floating time.
